The Bubble Gum Trip

A couple of months ago I got a letter from my niece Cassee.  She's Maia's older sister and we were chatting about how I learned how to start writing stories.  I found myself fumbling for words because it has been a long time since I actually wrote anything.

I told her that stories begin in our imagination but it is inspired by the moments we experience every single day.  A few weeks after our chat she sent me this handwritten letter about a little girl who chewed a pack of bubble gum making her fly off to another dimension.

I am inspired by Cassee's creativity.  I can only hope that one day, I'll be as creative as her.

The Story Living Club

Today I start something new.  My niece Maia called me this morning and had a really wonderful idea about starting a website where we would write stories that would encourage people.  Hopefully these stories we'd write together would help them with their problems and inspire them to live everyday life with a little bit more joy than usual.

I sit on my desk and think about the things that have happened in my day.  While I had quite a long meeting at work I couldn't help but think about our storytelling project which she wanted to begin by December so that it can eventually be a gift to people who needed help.  Little does she know I'm starting it bit by bit today.  She said that she wanted some time to plan and to think about the things people need encouragement about.  I suppose I don't need to think too far off since I'm feeling encouraged enough by our little project already.

Here's a little story-rhyme about this morning.

-

When the week comes without much rest
And smiles are being put to the test
Just say a little prayer for your angel to hear
And you will see that she'll answer because she is near

I asked about what I can do
To make my life special and true
And the answer came without much need to wait
My eight year old niece had so much to say!

She wanted to write stories just like me
To show that joy can be found if you're open to see
That little everyday things can be treasures too
And your smile can easily shake off the blues

We plan for this journey
Like an adventure we'll take
With her big sister Cassee
We'll write more each day

We'll open our eyes to see everything
To capture the stories our angels will bring
And then someday we'll write about you
Because we smile when we're writing
And make all things new.
